MOTHER - DUATHLON COMPETITOR - MUSICIAN - CYCLIST - TEACHER
For 15 years I was the Head of Music at Westlake Boys High. I loved the music and I loved teaching my ‘many sons’– but I was exhausted. At a particularly low point, I realised I was so busy ‘making a living’ that I had nothing left over to actually ‘have a life’. At aged 52 I was on pills – pills for anxiety and depression, sleeping pills, pills for migraines, pills for menopause….it felt like I was on the proverbial runaway train to old age. So surely it was a ‘logical step’ to give up my job, and start a Personal Trainer’s course – with a group of young people in their 20s?!
Wow – I was so far out of my comfort zone, but I can honestly say it was the best thing for me! It was wonderful to finally put the years of exercise practice into a knowledgeable framework and put health first in my life. I am very passionate about the role of exercise in our lives and the importance of health as we age. Who wants to live long old years if we don’t have the strength to have some fun! Being middle-aged myself, I know what a challenge it is to approach Gyms, and I also know how hard it is to be trained by the young and perfect. So in 2012, I opened the boutique GETSET Studio, with a not-so-perfect Trainer!
I have found working with my Clients incredibly rewarding. Through gradual change to diet and exercise, my Clients form new lifestyle habits that they can maintain. I don’t believe in diets or radical change – rather, small tweaks here and there. The best gift I can give to my clients, is show them how wonderful it is to move again and feel energetic. Exercise does not have to hurt! I feel honoured to support my Clients on their healthy journey.“TOGETHER, WE GETSET FOR A GREAT OLD AGE”
